GARDEN PLACE TOWNHOUSE

Typology
5-STORY PRIVATE RESIDENCE
Status
COMPLETED '25
Scope
ARCHITECTURE / INTERIOR DESIGN
Size
5,400 sq/ft

This renovation of an 1840 Brooklyn townhouse integrates historic fabric with contemporary spatial intervention, re-conceiving the home as a continuous sequence defined by calibrated transitions, visual depth, and sectional connection rather than discrete rooms.

The primary suite is organized around a central vanity core, using geometry, orientation, and controlled daylight to establish layered privacy. At the garden basement level, the rear of the house is excavated and extended toward the garden to introduce daylight and open long vistas, deliberately softening the boundary between interior and exterior. A compact sauna is embedded within this new zone, integrating a high-performance wellness program into the tight urban footprint.

A fifth-floor oculus functions as a vertical light device, drawing daylight through a sculptural ceiling and a walkable glass floor to transform the stair into a spatial and atmospheric connector.
